The 51st match of the IPL 2022 saw Mumbai Indians snatching a victory from the jaws of defeat against Gujarat Titans at Brabourne Stadium. The stage was all set for GT to grab a victory and secure their playoffs berth but a sensational final over from Daniel Sams spilled water on their plans. In the same light, the star bowler from the game, Rashid Khan, stated the moment that really changed the game for them.
Khan, who picked two wickets against MI, added that they have finished several games while being in the same situation but two run-outs spoiled the party for them. It is to be noted that when the game got intense, Ishan Kishan ran out Hardik Pandya and the fate turned out to be the same for stunning finisher Rahul Tewatia. When the GT skipper had to leave the field, he had already collected a crucial 24 runs off 14 balls.
However, seeing the past records, Titans pinned their hopes on Tewatia to sail them out of the mess but even he got unlucky after collecting just three runs. Khan added that they played well throughout the game but those two run-outs turned out to be the game-changing moments for them.
I believe we played well throughout the game: Rashid Khan
“We finished 4-5 matches after being in the same situation where we got the runs needed. It’s the nature of T20 cricket that you can get 20 off six and on days you can’t even get 10 off six,” said Khan as quoted by Cricbuzz.
“I believe we played well throughout the game. The way they started, we made a good comeback. The two run-outs were game-changing moments. If you need just 8-9 in the last over, it’s possible. You only need one good hit but that’s the beauty of T20 cricket. Sometimes it’s pretty hard to get nine off six balls and other times it’s pretty easy to get nine off two balls. We learn from it and keep moving on,” he added.
