'The wait is finally over' - Rahul Tripathi's maiden Team India call-up sets Twitter ablaze

Rahul Tripathi’s wait for a maiden international call-up has come to an end as he has been named in India’s 17-member squad for the away T20I series against Ireland later this month. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) made the major announcement on Wednesday evening (June 15) and Twitter can’t keep calm. Meanwhile, two T20Is will be played on the tour, on June 26 and 28 respectively.

Meanwhile, Tripathi had been patiently waiting for his chances, having performed well in the Indian Premier League (IPL) in recent years. However, his breakthrough season came this year as he was on a roll for his new franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. Occupying the number three slot in the SRH line-up, Tripathi played one stellar knock after another and guided the Orange Army to numerous victories.

Not just the dasher was aggressive in his approach but he occupied the crease for long as well. Overall, he scored 413 runs in 14 matches with his average and strike rate being close to 40 and 160 respectively. These numbers aren’t ordinary by any standards and hence, the BCCI selectors couldn’t ignore the 31-year-old.

Meanwhile, Hardik Pandya will lead the team in Ireland with the senior players being in the Test team for the rescheduled fifth Test against England. Having missed the ongoing T20I series against South Africa, Sanju Samson has also been included in the squad and the wicketkeeper-batter will have a point to prove. Suryakumar Yadav is another notable inclusion in the team as he missed the South Africa T20Is due to fitness issues.

With the T20 World Cup taking place later this year in Australia, the Indian players will aim to put up a good show against Ireland to present a case for themselves. Although Tripathi has been included in the squad, only time would tell whether he makes his international debut against Ireland or not.
