Indian fast bowling sensation Umran Malik made his much-awaited Team India debut in the first T20I of the ongoing two-match series against Ireland in Dublin on June 26, Sunday. He was also in the India squad that played a five-match series against South Africa at home earlier in the month but was sidelined to the bench throughout the series.

Malik received cap number 98 from veteran Indian pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar as he was congratulated by the rest of his teammates. Malik was one of the first names on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)  team sheet in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 as he made a lot of noise with his out-and-out pace. He also bowled the second-fastest delivery (157 kmph) in the competition.

Suryakumar Yadav and Deepak Hooda return to the team

Meanwhile, India will also be led by new captain Hardik Pandya in the absence of senior players such as Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. Hardik elected to bowl first after winning the toss, as he explained that the weather conditions have been uncertain. The home team captain Andy Balbirnie said that he also wanted to bowl first due to the weather conditions. He also said that the team is excited and hopes to put up a good show.

“Looking at the conditions, we will bowl. The weather’s been all over the place. The fans coming in and playing here is exciting. I’m lucky to represent and lead my country which will be special. All are professionals in the team, so my role is to allow them to play with freedom,” said the Indian captain after the toss.

“Probably would have bowled due to the weather. Looks a good wicket, hope we put runs on the boar,” said Balbirnie.

All-rounder Deepak Hooda, after warming the benches in the South Africa series, will start in the game in Dublin, while batter Suryakumar Yadav is back in the squad and also in the playing XI. The last time the two teams faced in a bilateral series was back in 2018, wherein India whitewashed the series 2-0.
