Rahul Dravid is all set to succeed Ravi Shastri as Team India’s head coach post the ongoing T20 World Cup 2021. He will take over the responsibility of the team from the upcoming home series against New Zealand. The Cricket Advisory Committee of the BCCI comprising Sulakshana Naik, the former India Women wicketkeeper, and former India speedster RP Singh took this decision.
After Dravid had formally applied for the post, it was a mere formality as the board was unlikely to look past him. Renowned as ‘The Wall’ for his incredible resilience on the field, Dravid has been one of the most celebrated and respected cricketers of the country. His contributions in the field of coaching have also fetched him admiration and respect from all around the cricketing fraternity.
Rahul Dravid has been instrumental in guiding younger talents to success
Recognizing young talents and grooming them to their best potential is arguably one of the most herculean tasks. Dravid started his coaching career with the IPL franchise Rajasthan Royals in the year 2014. After his stint with the Royals, he took charge as the head coach of the India U19 and India A teams.
In his maiden stint as the Under 19 coach, he guided the team exceptionally well as they finished as the runners-up in the ICC Under-19 World Cup in 2016. Rishabh Pant, Ishan Kishan, and Washington Sundar were some of the intriguing talents that had come to the limelight for the first time then. Dravid then worked hard on the youngsters and helped them exude their dominance at the biggest stage.
The team that included the likes of Prithvi Shaw, Shubman Gill, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, and Shivam Mavi went on to taste the ICC trophy glory. Under the watchful eyes of Dravid, the team lifted the U19 World Cup in 2018. He then also took the charge as the Director of Cricket Operations at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore in 2019 wherein he has been instrumental in shaping the careers of the budding cricketers.
Now that he is all set to take the responsibility of team India as the head coach, the cricket fraternity and fans are all overwhelmed.
