The Coronavirus pandemic has affected the whole world. More than anything, the developing countries are being affected as the governments have had to enforce a lockdown to curb the spread of the virus. India and Pakistan have also been affected with a lot of cases in both the nations and amidst all this, the former Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Akhtar suggested organising a charity series between the arch-rivals in Dubai.

He was of the opinion that the money raised through this three-match series could be used to solve the problems of the poor people from both the countries. However, not many backed him. The likes of Kapil Dev, Aamer Sohail felt that the series won’t go ahead even as the former went on to say that India has enough money and they don’t want to risk the players’ lives by organising any series.

Harbhajan Singh has also opined on the matter now and feels that this is not the correct time to play a cricket match. He also said that one shouldn’t even think of playing at the moment and also mentioned that funds could be raised through other means.

Cricket is the last thing on my mind, says Harbhajan Singh

“See cricket is the last thing on my mind at the moment. I am not even thinking about it. There are other way to raise funds. It is not necessary to hold a cricket match. I don’t think anyone should think about sports and cricket at this hour. These are small things. Lives are at stake…understand that,” he was quoted as saying by Times Now.

As far as Harbhajan Singh is concerned, he is doing his bit as well in India’s fight against Coronavirus. He and his wife Geeta Basra are helping 5000 underprivileged families in his native Jalandhar. Though is not in Punjab, the cricketer is getting help from his friends.

Harbhajan was recently criticised as well for urging the fans to donate to Shahid Afridi Foundation. But he came up with an explanation that he will always stand for humanity.
