'There are pros and cons to both' - Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor opens up on split captaincy in Indian cricket

Amidst all the cricket matches which are going on, there is an upcoming Bollywood movie that is cricket-based and is titled Jersey. The film consists of famous stars like Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur and they have been doing several interviews, and have been promoting their upcoming movie.

As the film revolves around cricket, they are ought to be a few questions related to the things which are happening in the cricketing world. Thus, Shahid Kapoor was recently asked his opinion on the division of captaincy in red-ball and white-ball cricket. Ever since Rohit Sharma replaced Virat Kohli as the ODI skipper in order to lead the Asian giant in both the white-ball formats, there have been several opinions about the same.

While speaking to The Times Of India, the Jab We Met actor went on to give a diplomatic response to the question pertaining to different captains in Tests and limited-overs cricket. He said that it was for the BCCI to decide that. He also mentioned that this kind of split captaincy had both, advantages, as well as disadvantages.

I think that’s for the BCCI to decide: Shahid Kapoor 

“I think that’s for the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) to decide. But hmmm, there are pros and cons to both. But, I guess it should be what works best for the team in question,” said Shahid Kapoor. Thus, he felt that it would depend on the suitability of the team in question.

A few weeks ago, Kohli was abruptly replaced by Sharma as the new ODI captain. While several fans had several contrasting opinions, the lack of clarity between the BCCI and India’s Test captain was severely criticized. While the BCCI president Sourav Ganguly said that he had requested the 33-year-old not to step down from the T20I captaincy, the batting maestro said otherwise.

This communications gap was clearly visible during a press conference of Kohli. Nevertheless, he did mention that he and the Indian opener are on good terms and there isn’t any rift between the two.
