MS Dhoni, the former Indian skipper made his last international appearance in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. After returning from the mega-event, he went onto a sabbatical and has never donned Indian jersey since then. There have been constant talks that the former World Cup-winning skipper might bid farewell to international cricket but there is no clarity over it. Amid all the speculations, Sourav Ganguly, the newly-elected BCCI President, has opened up on the rumours in relation to Dhoni’s retirement.
The 38-year-old has helped India won several accolades under his leadership like ICC T20 World Cup (2007), 50 over World Cup (2011), ICC Champions Trophy (2013) and many more. He is regarded as one of the best skipper as well as the wicketkeeper in Indian cricket history.
Sourav Ganguly opines on the rumours surrounding MS Dhoni’s future
Recently, Sourav Ganguly, the BCCI Chief said that there is enough time to decide on Dhoni’s future. He also added that the things will get clear in the upcoming few months. He was also questioned about Ravi Shastri’s statement that IPL 2020 will give a clear picture over the future of the former skipper. Reacting to it, he said that let’s see what happens but everything will get cleared. “We will see what happens, there’s enough time. Of course, it will get clear (within three months).” the BCCI President said as quoted by Hindustan Times.
He also added that there is absolute clarity over Dhoni’s future but certain things cannot be showcased on the public platforms. There is transparency kept between the board, the senior player and selectors. In the end, Sourav said that the 38-year-old is a champion athlete but certain things should be kept under the closed doors.
“No no, there is clarity, but certain things cannot be said on a public platform. There is absolute clarity on MS Dhoni and you’ll find out in time. “There’s transparency between the Board, MS Dhoni and the selectors. When you deal with such champions — MS Dhoni is an unbelievable athlete for India — certain things have to be kept within the closed doors. It’s very transparent and everybody knows where they stand.” he added.
