There is no reason that I wouldn't want to play for South Africa: Chris Morris

South African team is going through a rebuilding process with new coach Mark Boucher and new captain Quinton de Kock. After a disappointing last year, they are finally back to winning ways by defeating Australia in the ODI series. Like every team, the Proteas are also setting their team up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in Australia later this year.

Sticking to the World Cup preparations, all-rounder Chris Morris has made it clear that he still wants to represent the South African side in the future. The all-rounder has not been picked in the Proteas squad since last year but insisted that there is no reason behind him not wanting to represent his national side.

The fast bowling all-rounder is considered to be one of the best players in the shortest format of the game and has regularly been picked by various franchises across the globe to represent them. He had a solid Big Bash League (BBL) this year, where he picked up 22 wickets in 15 matches (second-most). His performances helped his team Sydney Thunder win the tournament.

He was picked up by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL 2020 auction for a whopping sum of 10 Cr INR. The lanky all-rounder hopes to get picked for the national team after this year’s IPL. “There is no reason that I wouldn’t want to play for South Africa. Hopefully, it happens after the IPL this year, but I have never insisted on being selected,” Morris said as quoted by Sport24,

The 32-year-old made his debut for South Africa back in 2012 and has represented them in 4 Tests, 42 ODIs and 23 T20Is. But he currently has no contract with neither South Africa, nor his domestic side Titans. He last played for the Proteas side on 6th July last year against Australia in the World Cup.

But After having a troublesome last few years, the Pretoria born cricketer finally seems to have his mojo back. The player, who uses the long handle quite effectively coming lower down the order and has the pace to trouble the batsmen while bowling, can surely make a comeback soon. His experience would be valuable for a team looking to win their first World Cup.
