Sourav Ganguly took over the team reins of the team when the Indian cricket was in shambles in the early 2000s and did wonders. He injected the much-needed aggression in the side and the team also started winning overseas which looked a distant dream previously. The former Indian captain is currently commentating in the ongoing World Cup in England and recalled his playing days on Tuesday.

He asked whether any player was given the responsibility to get into the verbal duel with the opponents. In response, Sourav Ganguly responded in an extremely funny way which left his former teammate VVS Laxman who was sitting beside him in splits. The prince of Kolkata hilariously trolled the likes of Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar and Laxman saying that there were too many gentlemen in the team and how they avoided sledging the opposition.

“That was very hard in that team because we had too many gentlemen. If you tell Rahul Dravid to do that, he will come back and kindly say no. If you asked VVS Laxman, he would say I am concentrating on my batting. If you tell Sachin to do that, he will stand at mid-on and tell the midwicket fielder to say things to Steve Waugh and himself not do it. So there were a lot of issues with that team,” Ganguly told while speaking to Star Sports.

Sardarji asked everything I asked him to

Moreover, Sourav Ganguly further revealed that it was him and Harbhajan Singh who sledged the opponents most of the times. He also praised Bhajji as he always listened to his captain in terms of having a go at the opposition team. “The only ones holding the Indian flag were Harbhajan Singh and Sourav Ganguly because Sardarji did everything I asked him to,” the 47-year-old added.

The hilarious response gave something to cheer for the fans during the frustrating break in the semi-final between India and New Zealand in Manchester. The match is set to continue from where it stopped on Wednesday and the fans will be hoping for the rain to stay away.
