Reeza Hendricks, the South African batter, remarked that Proteas are a very competitive team and expressed his gratitude for the chances at his disposal. After England won the first match by 41 runs and South Africa won the second game by 58 runs, the three-match T20I series between the two rivals is now levelled at 1-1. The teams will square off in the final match of the series on Sunday at Southampton’s Rose Bowl as one of them will go on to lift the bilateral trophy.
Hendricks, who is in great form, scored 57 off 33 and 53 off of 32 for South Africa in the two T20Is. Hendricks stated that he will continue to take chances despite some batters being in outstanding form and putting their hands up for spots in the lineup for the T20 World Cup that is scheduled to take be hosted by Australia in October.
“It’s obviously nice to contribute. There’s a lot of competition within the team at present, which is also a good thing as well. So I’m happy I got the opportunity and managed to put in two good performances,” Hendricks was quoted as saying by India Today.
“Where that leaves me, I’m not sure, but whatever opportunity I get, I’ll try to do the best as I can. Then whatever happens from there selection-wise and where it puts me, it’s up to the team, the coaches and the selectors as to where they see me fit,” he added.
This is a big game now but we’re quite confident: Reeza Hendricks
The first game witnessed a strong performance by Tristan Stubbs, South Africa’s newly found young superstar, as he notched up a 28-ball 72 runs at a point in time when his side struggled to get going during the chase. Hendricks stated that he looks forward to improving on his efforts and aiding South Africa in a successful finale to the T20Is against England.
“It was disappointing (the performance) after the first game and the talk was about bouncing back from that, which we managed to do. So this is a big game now but we’re quite confident. We back ourselves to go out there and put in another good performance. In saying that, we obviously know that England will come out guns blazing as well, so it’s all set up to be a good game. To get a series win in England would be a great achievement, so we’re obviously striving for that and hopefully, it is a good game. I’d love to think and hope we come out on top,” he added.
