There’s no personal interest playing for India, says a proud Virat Kohli

Even though the Indian team’s players are taking part in the 2019 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the most-awaited upcoming World Cup in England and Wales would be at the back of their minds. One person, who would be concerned is the 30-year-old Virat Kohli, who has been a fulcrum of the Men in Blue in all three formats of the sport ever since his foray at the highest level.

India are deemed as one of the favourites to win the mega event, starting Thursday, May 30 and one of the reason is Kohli himself because of his jaw-dropping numbers. With 41 centuries in the ODI format to his name, the Delhi-born is deemed as the greatest batsman of this generation.

Ahead of the 50-overs tournament, the mood in the Indian camp is positive and Kohli himself talked about the atmosphere in the team. Virat also credited the experienced MS Dhoni for being a guiding light to the youngsters. Moreover, he showed pride in donning the national colours.

We set one goal and then it’s auto-mode

“It takes an effort from everyone in the change-room right from the management to the support staff to myself as a captain to Mahi bhai. Him being a senior and the way he deals with junior players.. these things make a massive, massive difference.

That’s why there’s so much warmth and so much trust in the team and that’s why you see us playing the way we are because there’s complete trust. We set one goal and then it’s auto-mode. Everyone syncs with that goal,” Kohli was quoted as saying in an exclusive interview with India Today.

“There is no personal interest, there is no playing for my performance.. there’s nothing of that sort. People are so happy bowling 4 good overs for the team even if their names are not flashed in the news the next day. These are the things that make me so proud to be part of this group,” he added.

India recently lost the ODI series against Australia 2-3, but bearing in mind their form over the past couple of years, many experts and pundits reckon that India can go on and lift the trophy. Virat’s men are scheduled to start their campaign in the World Cup against South Africa on June 5 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
