‘These people are filled with hate’ – Rahul Gandhi slams fans targeting Mohammed Shami after defeat against Pakistan

Team India had an unforgettable time against Pakistan in their maiden assignment in T20 World Cup 2021. The Virat Kohli-led side couldn’t extend the winning streak as Pakistan recorded their maiden victory against the Men in Blue in World Cup events. It was a pretty much one-sided affair as India hardly looked in the hunt. As a result, the jinx was broken as the Pakistan team was ecstatic.
While fans in Pakistan went in a celebratory mood, the scenes were entirely different in the other side of the border. Fans were dejected and hence, the players had to suffer harsh criticism. While many Indian players couldn’t do well in the crucial clash, Mohammed Shami particularly came under the radar. The right-arm pacer was taken to cleaners and his numbers narrate the entire story.
He conceded 43 runs in 3.5 overs without taking a wicket. While several fans and analyst dissected what went wrong for the pacer, a section of fans targeted Shami over his religion. Apparently, the veteran speedster was accused of underperforming as all Pakistan players are Muslim. Some even asked him to go and settle in Pakistan.
Fortunately, the pacer received support from many prominent personalities who slammed those fans and their line of thinking. From Sachin Tendulkar to Irfan Pathan, many came forward and lend their support to Shami. Indian National Congress (INC) leader Rahul Gandhi is the latest one to join the bandwagon.

Taking to Twitter, the veteran politician said those targeting Shami are filled with hatred. “Mohammad #Shami we are all with you. These people are filled with hate because nobody gives them any love. Forgive them,” tweeted Rahul Gandhi.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli didn’t mind accepting that his team was outplayed by Pakistan in the crucial clash. However, he also backed his side to make an emphatic comeback.
“We didn’t execute properly. Credit where it’s due and Pakistan outplayed us today. They started brilliantly with the ball, and 3 wickets for 20 runs was not a good start. We needed wickets early but with the bat they gave us absolutely no chances. However, this is just the first game of the tournament, not the last,” he said after the game.
