'They didn't bowl their usual lengths' - Wasim Jaffer reveals the reason behind England's defeat at Lord's
India won the Lord's Test by huge 151 runs.
India scripted history at Lord’s while winning the 2nd Test match of the series against England in the most enthralling manner. Though the team effort came marching up in all departments, bowlers produced some extraordinary efforts to claim the victory. The heroes of the final day were Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah who stitched a sturdy partnership for ninth wickets and let India have the upper hand.
In the same sequence of events, former Indian cricketer and analyst Wasim Jaffer added that England bowlers were not in the correct frame of mind when Bumrah came up to bat. He criticized the home bowlers for not bowling their usual lengths which allowed the tail to settle in well and they went on to have a respectable lead.
England bowlers got distracted from their game plan: Jasprit Bumrah
“I think the England bowlers lost the plot when Bumrah came to bat. The way Bumrah bowled bouncers to Anderson, a few hit him on the body too, there was some heated exchange too. It made England bowlers lose the plot as they tried to hit Bumrah with short pitch deliveries rather than hitting stumps. They didn’t bowl their usual lengths, they got distracted from their game plan and this gave Bumrah and Shami to play some shots and stitch a partnership which proved out to be a match-winning one,” said Jaffer while speaking of his YouTube Channel.
It has to be noted that the 9th wicket stand of 89* runs put India in a commanding position and Kohli and company declared after it. However, the Indian bowlers had a tough task to handle as they had to get all the 10 wickets by the end of the day. However, the visiting bowlers showed nerve of steel and got everything that was required for the team to win the game at the Lord’s. KL Rahul was declared as the player of the match wherein there were several great performances to choose from.
Rahul played a stunning knock of 129 runs during the first innings of the game where he got a great lending hand from Rohit Sharma.
