The saga around Wriddhiman Saha‘s omission from the Indian team for the upcoming home Tests against Sri Lanka has been enlarging with a lot of former cricketers voicing out their opinions. Saha had recently revealed about a threat from a journalist for rejecting an interview but refrained from naming the journalist. The 37-year-old had also revealed his contrasting conversations with head coach Rahul Dravid and BCCI president Sourav Ganguly about his place in the side.

The Chetan Sharma led selection committee had wanted Saha to play Ranji Trophy and have noted about grooming KS Bharat as the backup wicketkeeping option for India. However, Saha’s grievances had come up from a point that he is still fit and one of the best keepers in the world and to add to that, he scored a valiant unbeaten 61 in his last innings for India.

Unfortunately, Saha has very stiff competition: Syed Kirmani

Former Indian wicketkeeper Syed Kirmani felt that it has been unfair on Saha’s side to be left out of the squad despite being the best gloveman in the country and noted that strong competition as one of the reasons.

“I rate this boy very highly. In my opinion, he is currently India’s most technically sound wicketkeeper. But the selection committee, the team management and others have something else on their minds. Unfortunately, he has very stiff competition,” Kirmani told Sportskeeda.

Kirmani added that he had also been a sufferer of getting dropped during his peak times and took the example of Sachin Tendulkar who had also been at the same place. He reckoned that the administrators should also be talked about and not just the cricketers.

“This age factor has been there for a long time now. I was also a victim of this. They didn’t spare even Sachin Tendulkar, right? I believe that a player matures from the time he’s thirty-years old; until then he’s in a learning process. Just like me, Saha has been dropped from the Indian team when he’s at the peak of his career. And why are we only talking about cricketers? What about the administrators?” he added
