'They know what needs to be done' - Rohit Sharma backs Mumbai Indians' new pace attack
MI has undergone a massive revamp as a mega auction took place ahead of IPL 2022.
Mumbai Indians will hunt for their sixth title in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The Rohit Sharma-led side has indeed been a force to reckon with in the competition, having won five titles in the last nine seasons. However, the side has undergone a massive revamp as a mega auction took place last month. Hence, the side has lost services of many of their key players
As per the norms, the eight existing sides were allowed to retain a maximum of just four players. MI used their cards to keep skipper Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard. However, they lost services of proven T20 stars like Hardik Pandya, Quinton de Kock and Trent Boult.
As far as MI’s new bowling attack is concerned, Tymal Mills and Javdev Unadkat will join forces with Jasprit Bumrah. Speaking of the same, Rohit said the new fast bowlers in the side are experienced enough to know what needs to be done.
We are trying to give role clarity to players: Rohit Sharma
“(Tymal) Mills, (Jaydev) Unadkat are new to the franchise, but they are not new to the game. They have played the game for a number of years now and they know what needs to be done. It’s just that our role will be critical as to how we give them the understanding of what they need to do for us as a team,” Rohit said.
“They have played for different franchises and countries, where they had different roles. For us, that will be a challenge and we are working with these guys. We are trying to give them a role clarity as to what we are expecting from them and what sort of role they need to play here,” he added.
Meanwhile, MI will kick-start their campaign against Delhi Capitals on March 27 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. As Suryakumar Yadav is likely to miss the fixture due to fitness issues, MI’s playing XI will be interesting to see.
