The five-time champions Mumbai Indians are having a horrible time in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. The Men in Blue and Gold have lost their all previous eight encounters and are currently placed last on the points table with no wins to their name.
One of the prominent reasons for MI’s failure has been their inconsistency in the batting department. It may be noted that MI openers, skipper Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan, are struggling to score runs. However, MI batting coach Robin Singh has backed them and said that they will make a comeback soon.
Both Kishan and Rohit have failed to provide a good start to their team
Wicketkeeper-batter Kishan, who was purchased by the five-time champions for a huge price of INR 15.25 crore, started well but has failed to make runs consistently. The left-handed batter has scored 199 runs in eight matches at an average of 28.4. Speaking in a pre-match press conference Robin Singh said, “We’ve addressed a few things that we feel that he (Kishan) can improve on. Obviously, it’s about getting better during the course of the game,” Robin said at the virtual pre-match press conference ahead of their game against Rajasthan Royals.
MI captain Rohit Sharma is also struggling to find his groove having managed just 153 runs from eight outings, averaging 19.13. ”As a batsman, you need to address what you think is important to you. I think he (Rohit) put in a lot of work. We’ve spent a lot of time with him, at the nets, at the ground. And I think, like Ishan Kishan, we have addressed what he needs to do.” ”As an individual, as a batsman, as a senior batsman, he knows his responsibility,” Robin added.
The five-time champions will take on strong looking Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their next group stage encounter to be played on April 30 (Saturday) at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Mumbai. MI would be keen on winning this match and open their account in the points table.
