Former England all-rounder Andrew Flintoff has reignited his banter with Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan after Joe Root’s double century in the ongoing first Test against India in Chennai. Playing his 100th Test, Root made the occasion a memorable one for him by leading his team from the very front in the series opener.
The right-handed batsman, who arrived in India after scoring a double century and a century in Sri Lanka last month, started from where he had left in the island nation. The England batting mainstay went on to score 218 before being dismissed by Shahbaz Nadeem. His innings came off 377 balls and lasted more than four sessions. Root’s fifth double century and third as a captain also made him the first batsman in the history of the game to hit a double hundred in his 100th Test.
Andrew Flintoff takes a dig at Amitabh Bachchan
While the cricketing world was busy praising Joe Root for his knock, Andrew Flintoff used the opportunity to take a dig at Bachchan for the latter’s 5-year old tweet. During the 2016 T20 World Cup, Flintoff and Bachchan were involved in a war of words on Twitter. It had started after Virat Kohli’s famous knock against Australia that helped India book their place in the semifinal.
Following Kohli’s knock, Flintoff had cheekily tweeted that ‘at this rate, Kohli will be as good as Root one day’. Flintoff’s tweet had not gone down well with Bachchan and he did not shy away from hitting back at the England legend. Replying to Flintoff’s tweet, Bachchan had said he had no idea who Root was before adding that India would ‘uproot’ Root.
@flintoff11 @imVkohli @root66 @englandcricket Root who ? जड़ से उखाड़ देंगे Root ko ..!!!

Well, Flintoff had the last laugh in the battle as he made sure to take a sly dig at Bachchan on Saturday after Root’s knock. Retweeting Bachchan’s old tweet on Root, Flintoff took a jibe at the legendary Bollywood actor, tweeting: “With the greatest respect, this aged well.”

An avid cricket fan, Bachchan would definitely love to hit back at Flintoff if Kohli goes on to deliver in the ongoing Test. And Bachchan would not be the only man who would like Kohli to do well as India desperately need their captain to step up after England’s impressive show with the bat. At stumps on day two, England were on 555 for 8.
