Exactly 14 years ago, on this day, Yuvraj Singh created history smashing six sixes an over off Stuart Broad in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup. It was one of the best moments in the Indian cricket history and every year, fans relive it to the fullest. Yuvraj also loves to recalls the mighty night when he took apart Broad who was at the start of his career then.
There is an interesting back story to what led to Yuvraj going berserk at the Wanderers that day. Just before the start of the over, Andrew Flintoff was involved in a heated conversation with the left-hander and the latter was irked with it. An angry also walked towards the England all-rounder to continue the chat even as the umpires had to intervene to calm things down.
The incident had by then ignited the fire inside Yuvraj Singh who ended up smacking Broad for six sixes leaving Flintoff out of ideas on the day. On Sunday (September 19), the now retired Indian cricketer came across a hilarious meme which was related to the same incident. The meme depicted a boy wearing Flintoff’s jersey teasing the sleeping lion (who is Yuvraj) and the world knows what transpired later.
What do you think? – Yuvi quips Flintoff
Yuvraj Singh found the meme too funny and couldn’t resist putting it out in his Instagram story. He didn’t stop here and tagged Flintoff asking him what he thinks about the meme. “This is too funny whoever made this. What do you think @aflintoff11?” Yuvraj wrote in his story.
Here’s his story:
It was a must-win game for India and the six sixes made the difference in the end. In response to 218/4, England could only reach 200 runs and the campaign of the Men in Blue only ended after they historically lifted the trophy. Not many had given them the chance to win at the start and Yuvraj Singh’s heroics gave a new life to their campaign.
After defeating England, India breezed past South Africa, beat Australia in the semi-final and then won the trophy beating the arch-rivals in a thrilling final.
