This is what Nasser Hussain has advised England ahead of the Women’s World Cup final
Nasser has advised England not to use spinners against Kaur if they want to stop her from scoring
While Australia and almost every other team in the ICC Women’s World Cup were expecting a huge danger in the form of Indian captain Mithali Raj alone, what unfolded during the tournament was a different story altogether. Although Raj proved to be the most consistent performer among all, scoring runs in almost every game, she has been well supported by others in the team.
When she fell, Harmanpreet Kaur stood up. When Mandhana fell, Raut stood up. When Jhulan Goswami couldn’t take wickets, Shikha Pandey stood up. This is what has made the Indian team a force to reckon with. Almost all of their players have been performing, a strength which helped them beat big names like New Zealand and Australia.
However, in the semi-final against the mighty Aussies, it was Harmanpreet alone. She played the innings of her life, the innings of Indian cricket’s lifetime. She scored an unbeaten 171 to take India to a competitive total. The Australian bowlers, who are known to be one of the best in the world, looked powerless in the face of Kaur’s sheer dominance in the game. And this is something England would be wary of.
Former England skipper Nasser Hussain has advised England not to use spinners against Kaur if they want to stop her from scoring. “My only advice to captain (Heather) Knight would be not to bowl spin when Kaur comes in because she absolutely smacked it against the Aussies at Derby on Thursday. Keep her quiet and England should be in business,” Hussain wrote in his column for the Daily Mail.
Kaur’s injury scare
However, it has been reported that Kaur has apparently injured herself during the practice session and looked in pain. Whether is a matter of serious concern or an injury that can be nursed overnight is yet to be known.
