Thisara Perera bids adieu to his international career

It has been reported that his decision came after Lanka team selectors are considering dropping senior players for their upcoming limited-overs assignments.

The decorated all-rounder of Sri Lanka cricket team Thisara Perera has decided to bid adieu to his international cricket career. As per the reports from Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), Perera has informed them about his decision of hanging boots. It is being reported, that his decision came after it was noticed that many selectors are considering omitting the senior players from the national ODI side. Therefore, the all-rounder has decided to end his international career.

The selectors of Sri Lanka earlier made a statement, that that they are considering dropping various senior players from the side for their commencing Bangladesh and ODI tour. As per the reports of NewsWire, a senior SLC official stated that the selectors are unlikely to consider Dimuth Karunaratne, Angelo Mathews, Dinesh Chandimal, Suranga Lakmal, and Thisara Perera for the upcoming outings for limited-overs cricket.

Thisara Perera last appeared in the series against West Indies

As per Lanka’s upcoming schedule, they are set to play an ODI series with Bangladesh followed by an ODI and T20I series with England. In the recent turn of events, Sri Lanka was up against West Indies for a Test, ODI, and T20I series in March-April where Perera marked his appearance. The T20I and ODI series were bagged by West Indies while the Test series resulted in a draw.

 

Thisara Perera’s career at a glance

Talking about his career, the all-rounder, Perera was part of 6 Tests with the national team where he scored 203 runs and picked 11 wickets for his team. He donned the Sri Lanka jersey in 166 ODIs while smashing 2338 runs and picking 175 wickets to his credit. Throwing light on his T20I career, he picked 51 wickets while producing 1204 runs. He played a good amount of T20 cricket while also being part of the Indian Premier League till 2016.

The tall all-rounder of Lanka played his last Test match against Pakistan in the year 2012 but kept on being an active member of Sri Lanka’s limited-overs squad. He was part of the Lanka squad that won the 2014 ICC World T20.
