Thisara Perera joins Gloucestershire for T20 Blast
He comes in as a replacement for Andrew Tye.
Team Gloucestershire have roped in the services of the veteran Sri Lankan all-rounder Thisara Perera for the upcoming edition of the T20 Blast. The tournament is one of the most popular T20 leagues in the world and it allows each of the participating teams to have two overseas signing in their roster. Hence, Perera became the second overseas signing for them this season.
Thisara Perera is a globetrotter when it comes to the shortest format of the game. He has represented various sides across the various T20 leagues around the world. The Sri Lankan all-rounder is set to ply his trade for the Gloucs this season now. Interestingly, he was not the first choice by the team management.
They had signed up the Australian all-rounder Andrew Tye as their overseas signing for this edition of the T20 league. But an injury to Tye saw the void being created which is not set to be filled in by Thisara Perera. Andrew Tye had injured his shoulder during his brief stint in the Indian Premier League this year for the Gujarat Lions.
Other overseas signing
The other overseas signing of Gloucestershire for this summer is the Australian batsman Cameron Bancroft. Bancroft is a veteran Australian domestic batsman and is a renowned T20 specialist. He has been playing for the Gloucs in all the three formats in this domestic season. Talking about Thisara Perera, the veteran all-rounder is a power hitter down the order and can chip in with crucial overs with the ball.
He has 11 Test wickets, 129 ODI wickets, and 36 T20I wickets to his name in his international career for Sri Lanka. With the bat, he bats with a strike rate of over 143 in the T20Is and has 7 fifties to his name in the ODI format of the game. Gloucestershire will play their first game of the T20 Blast campaign this year against Middlesex in Cheltenham on 7 July.
