Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal is baffled by the people pointing fingers at Indian skipper Virat Kohli for failing to win yet another ICC Trophy. Team India lost the World Test Championship (WTC) Final against New Zealand and the experts and fans have started to question Kolhi’s captaincy credentials when it comes to key moments in the ICC knockout games.
Kohli led India in the Champions Trophy Final in 2017 and in the 2019 Cricket World Cup semi-final, before the WTC loss being the latest. The fans immediately started the debate on social media about MS Dhoni and Kohli. It is a well-known fact that the Ranchi-born Dhoni has won all the ICC trophies in his career.
Akmal has supported the Indian skipper saying the 32-year-old has done a fantastic job while leading the team and he deserves appreciation, rather than constant criticism for failure to win the ICC trophy as a leader.
“Virat Kohli is the best captain after MS Dhoni. He has 70 centuries. He played the Champions Trophy and the 2019 World Cup. Sure enough, India lost but what is his fault in it? India have remained the No. 1 Test for five years. Look at his achievement, his service… his captaincy is terrific. There is no doubt about it. He is an amazing player and the way he has prepared himself is phenomenal,” Akmal told sports presenter Sawera Pasha on her YouTube channel.
Kamran Akmal feels changing the captain cannot guarantee instant success
The Pakistani keeper further stressed the point on how a change in captain cannot instantly guarantee success for India and it’s about the match day and not about who is in charge of the team. He went on to slam critics by saying that the ones who haven’t played the game are also pointing out fingers at the Indian skipper.
“He is an amazing player, amazing captain, and no one can guarantee that if India changes the captain, they will win ICC tournaments. It is a matter of luck. It is easy to point fingers, especially those who have no idea about cricket. People who have not even led a gull team are now giving Kohli and India advise to change their captain,” Akmal pointed out.
“I don’t think he would be affected by any of such things. He is mentally strong, a big performer. No one comes close to him. To score so many centuries and average over 50 in all three formats. Amazing,” he went on to say.
