Three members of South Africa women's cricket squad test positive for COVID-19

Three members from South Africa women’s cricket squad have tested positive for COVID 19 right before their training camp for a proposed England tour. The training camp is scheduled to start from 27th July in the Rainbow nation.

All three members who have tested positive have been withdrawn from the training camp by Cricket South Africa (CSA). Notably, the three members include one support staff as well.

“We can confirm that three people have tested positive. The players and support staff that have tested positive will now self-isolate for a period of 10 days and will take no part in the training camp,” CSA said in a media release.

The biggest cricket body of Africa also mentioned that all three members will follow self-isolation for 10 days and CSA’s medical committee will closely monitor their health to make sure of well being during the same.

“They have nil to mild symptoms as our medical team continue to closely monitor them in accordance with CSA’s COVID-19 Steering Committee protocols to ensure their well-being. The players’ return to train and play program will be guided by the CSA Medical Committee’s protocols,” the release stated.

34 tests conducted by Cricket South Africa to its players and support staff

CSA has conducted 34 tests on its players and support staff before 1st training camp. The members will also undergo a second round of testing ahead of the 2nd training camp which is scheduled to start from 16th of August.

CSA earlier had announced a 24-member squad to begin a week-long skill-based training. The training will happen in a biosecure environment ahead of the England tour which will get underway in September. Upon completion of the 1st training schedule, the players will go back to their respective provinces and will regroup for the second training schedule from August 16-27.

The players and staff who have tested negative will convene to High-Performance Centre in Pretoria to complete the week-long training camp. Earlier, CSA announced that South Africa women’s cricket team will tour England in September to play two T20Is and 4 ODIs.
