Three players, five support staff test COVID-19 positive days ahead of PSL 2022

The seventh season of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) is scheduled to get underway next Thursday i.e. January 27 with Karachi Kings hosting the defending champions Multan Sultans at National Stadium in Karachi. However, just days before the commencement of the tournament, it has been reported that three players and five members of the support staff have been tested COVID-19 positive.

The development has officially been confirmed by the tournament director Salman Naseer and according to ESPNcricinfo, players will be allowed to join their teams for training sessions from January 24, at the end of their isolation periods provided they produce two negative test results.

Meanwhile, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) as a precautionary note had started pre-emptive testing of the hotel staff and PCB officials from January 14, and the hotel staff and the report states that the members of the hotel staff who had tested positive were released and they remain in home isolation for the moment.

The details of the players and the support staff have not been given.

Salman Naseer wants PSL to be played and concluded in the one month window

Even though the COVID cases have already made an impact less than a week before the PSL kicks off, tournament director Salman Naseer is committed to organizing and concluding the tournament within the stipulated one-month window.

“PCB remains committed to creating a safe and secure environment for all participants so that they can play and perform to the best of their abilities,” Naseer said in a statement.
