Throwback to when Kesrick Williams had unfurled his notebook celebration against Virat Kohli

India skipper Virat Kohli did leave a few people surprised with his celebration when he hit Kesrick Williams for a six in the 16th over of the first T20I between India and West Indies in Hyderabad. While Kohli is known for his animated nature, his celebration looked nothing less than bizarre at that time since the pacer had not sledged him or done anything to him. Though there were a few heated moments between the two.

At first, it looked like Kohli was just pumped up after finding his groove. He was struggling for rhythm at the start of his innings before he started playing the big shots. Many thought Virat Kohli got carried away with emotions and thus mocked Williams with his own ‘notebook‘ celebration during the 16th over of the match.

But at the end of the match, he revealed that the reason was something else. The 31-year old, while speaking at the post-match presentation ceremony, revealed that he took revenge on Williams for an old incident. Williams had done his trademark ‘notebook’ celebration after dismissing Kohli during a T20I in Jamaica a couple of years ago.

“It’s not the CPL, it happened to me in Jamaica when he got me out. So I thought I’ll tick a few in the notebook as well, but all good. There were a few words, but smiles at the end. That’s what you want to see. Good competitive cricket but in the end shake hands and give a high-five. That’s what cricket is all about. Play it hard but have respect for opponents,” said the India batting mainstay.

It was the one-off T20I between India and West Indies in Jamaica during India’s 2017 tour. Virat Kohli had opened the innings and had got the team off to a brilliant start. But in the sixth over, Williams got the better of him only to remove an imaginary notebook from his pocket and perform his unique celebration. However, Virat Kohli didn’t forget the incident and gave it back on Wednesday in some style.

Kohli leads India to win:

Virat Kohli, meanwhile, scored a career-best 94 not out as India chased down 208 with ease. He scored 94 off just 50 balls with the help of 6 fours and as many sixes as India chased down the total with eight balls remaining. Apart from Kohli, KL Rahul impressed too by scoring 62. Kohli and Rahul shared a 100-run stand to bring the chase on track after Rohit Sharma departed cheaply.
