Australian cricket is in the middle of a rough phase as they look to recover from the shambles of the ball-tampering scandal in Cape Town, South Africa. Thereafter, Cricket Australia (CA) took a stern step and banned David Warner and Steve Smith for a year and Cameron Bancroft for nine months respectively. Recently, Justin Langer has replaced Darren Lehmann as the head coach of the Australian cricket team.

Robert Craddock, a cricket writer in New Corp, previously questioned whether Warner could fit into the scheme of things or not if an when he makes a comeback. He also mentioned that most of the players in the national team can’t stand Warner. The comments were lamented by Tim Paine, the Aussie skipper, and he termed the remarks as ‘unfair. Meanwhile, he also hailed Warner’s characteristics as an individual.

Tim Paine stands tall for David Warner

“I certainly like Craddock’s writing and when he’s on TV I’m a fan of his. But I thought he was a little bit off the mark there and really unfair on David Warner as a person and as a cricketer. Within our team, he’s someone with that energy and that competitiveness who we love playing with.

There’s a side of David that people don’t know which is a really loyal, really caring and a good team man to have around,” Paine was quoted as saying in a press conference.

Moreover, the Tasmania-born cricketer also mentioned that the trio of Bancroft, Warner and Smith will be gleefully welcomed. However, the 33-year wicket-keeper batsman also mentioned that they have to adjust to the new culture imbibed within the team, provided they want to stake their claim back in the team.

“All three are certainly going to be welcomed back into our team, if they’re prepared to toe the line with our new brand of cricket, which I know they will,” Paine added.
