Kiwi’s spearhead Tim Southee revealed that the Black Caps were more excited than nervous ahead of the all-important series finale scheduled on Sunday, October 29 against India. With the series locked at 1-1, both teams have everything to play for at the Green Park, Kanpur.
After shocking the Indians in the opening game of the series by chasing down 280 odd runs with the help of sensational innings from Tom Latham and Ross Taylor, New Zealand suffered defeats at the hands of the Indians at Pune by a margin of six wickets.
“No pressure, it’s more excitement I would say. There was an air of excitement around the guys today at training. Obviously, we feel freshened up after the day off yesterday. The series is on the line tomorrow,” stated Tim Southee according to News18.
New Zealand has the golden opportunity to win their maiden ODI series here in India and also break the winning streak currently India is in. If India manages to win the third game on Sunday, it would be their 6th consecutive bilateral series win.
India is a tough team in their own conditions: Southee
“That’s what we play for and like I said, good sides have come here and walked away empty handed. I guess it’ll be nice to seal the series here. But India is a tough team in their own conditions as they have shown that over a while,” further added the Kiwi, who was also part of the Mumbai Indians and Rajasthan Royals set up in the IPL.
“The beauty of a series is as it goes on it’s the same for both teams. You get more information about the opposition batters and there’s information going out there as well. Obviously, it’s a different ground and it offers different challenges, so if we can adapt to that quickly and see what is working then we’ll go a long way in a good bowling performance,” concluded Southee.
