2019 turned out to be a memorable year for Rohit Sharma, the Indian batsman. The opener used to be a prolific run-scorer only in ODIs and T20Is, but there were questions over his credentials as a Test batsman. But he put all the doubts to rest, scoring heavily against South Africa while pairing with Mayank Agarwal. As far as numbers are concerned, Rohit created a lot of records.
In the ODI format, he is set to end 2019 as the leading run-scorer. In 28 matches, the Nagpur-born has racked up 1,490 runs at an average of 57.30. Ever since he started opening the batting for the Men in Blue, Rohit has grown in stature in white-ball cricket. He had a dream outing in the 2019 edition of the World Cup in England and Wales. He turned out to be the leading run-scorer, having notched 648 runs at an average of 81 with as many as five centuries to his name.
Rohit Sharma shining for Team India
Rohit was the first batter to score that many tons in a single edition of the World Cup. Rohit was recently a part of India’s squad in the ODI and T20I series versus the West Indies. India had to play out of their skins to beat a spirited Caribbean unit by a margin of 2-1. Rohit played a pivotal role with the bat in hand and turned out to be the leading run-scorer in the three-match series.
In three games, Rohit scored 258 runs at an average of 86. He also scored a century in the second ODI at Visakhapatnam. After India ended their journey in 2019, Rohit dropped a tweet, expressing how much he has gained in the year. He thanked the fans for supporting the national team through thick and thin. Moreover, he now wishes to carry over his form in 2020 as well.
He took to Twitter and wrote, “What a way to finish the year. I’ll take most of that year what we did as a team and personally too. Thankful to all fans of the game for getting behind the team and supporting. Now time to get ready for the next set of duties.”
