Tinder India hilariously asks if ‘Rahul Tewatia is single’ after his heroics against KXIP
On Super Sunday, Tewatia upped the ante and helped RR record the highest run-chase in the history of the IPL.
It raised a lot of eyebrows when Rahul Tewatia was sent ahead of Jofra Archer and Tom Curran when the Rajasthan Royals (RR) were chasing a mammoth target of 224 against the Kings XI Punjab (KXIP). The move seemed to have backfired as the left-hander could manage only eight runs off his first 19 balls at a strike-rate of around 40. Meanwhile, the required run rate went to nearly 17.
Sanju Samson seemed to be the Royals’ only hope at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. However, after smashing Glenn Maxwell for three sixes in the 16th over, he gloved one to KL Rahul off Mohammed Shami and perished for a 42-ball 85. With 63 runs needed off 23 balls, KXIP had the match by the scruff of their necks and the Royals found themselves in all sorts of trouble.
Rahul Tewatia’s tale of two halves
In the last 18 balls, Steve Smith and Co needed 17 runs per over. Just when it seemed that the Punjab-based franchise were firm favourites, something miraculous took place. Tewatia, who was on 17 off 23 balls at the start of the 18th over went berserk out of the blues. In the 18th over, the southpaw laid into Sheldon Cottrell and smashed him for as many as 30 runs with five sixes.
Though Robin Uthappa, who got nine off four, got out in the next over, the RR batters didn’t stop. Shami was hit for three sixes in the penultimate over, one of which came off Tewatia’s willow. He got to his fifty with an upper-cut off Shami. He got out to the pacer with RR needing two off their last seven matches. His 31-ball 53 was laced with seven colossal hits into the stands.
RR won the game by four wickets with three balls to spare and also recorded the highest run-chase in the history of the IPL. In the meantime, Tinder India, the popular dating website, had a hilarious message for Tewatia.
They asked whether or not the cricketer is still single. They wrote, “Is Rahul Tewatia single? Asking for a friend.” The Royals had a witty reply in store. They wrote, “why don’t you ask him yourself?”
