Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is impressed with all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer. After the conclusion of the 2nd T20I match between India and the West Indies, Sharma stated that he is very happy with the progress that Iyer has made.
Adding that he is pleased with the maturity that Iyer is displaying, Sharma stated that the all rounder backs his skills. The ‘Hitman’ even stated that Iyer wanted to bowl for India in the death overs as well, and opined that India needs such players in the side.
“Very happy to see how he (Venkatesh Iyer) has progressed. To see such maturity is very pleasing. He backs his skills and that is what every captain wants. In the end, he wanted to bowl one over as well. We need such characters in our team,” said Sharma after the conclusion of the 2nd T20I match between India and the West Indies.

Venkatesh Iyer scored a blazing 33 at a strike rate in excess of 180 against the West Indies in the 2nd T20I. The left-hander struck 4 fours and a six in his stay out in the middle and helped India post a total in excess of 180.
And, Iyer put on a match-winning partnership of 76 runs with Rishabh Pant, who scored a superb 52* off just 28 deliveries. The West Indies put up a brave fight in reply, but in the end fell short of the target by 8 runs.
Rovman Powell top-scored for the visitors with a blistering 36-ball 68* and put on a 100-run partnership with Nicholas Pooran, who scored 62 off 41 deliveries. But in the end, the ‘Men in Maroon’ could only muster a total of 178/3.
India have now taken an unassailable 2-0 lead in the three-match T20I series. The final T20I will be held on 20th February 2022 in Kolkata.
