To stay positive at all time is the challenge, says AB de Villiers

The Royal Challengers Bangalore were the first team to get knocked out of the Indian Premier League contest in the 2019 season. The franchise started off their season in the IPL with six straight loss and despite a few wins in between, that looked like a comeback, they managed to sit on the most bottom position in the IPL points table all season. However, despite their defeat star batsman AB de Villiers there’s more to it than what meets the eye.

The Bengaluru-based franchise had their chance to redeem themselves in the IPL 2019 competition but as their latest match against the Rajasthan Royals, on Tuesday, was washed out it also extinguished their chances to qualify for the playoffs. The RCB have their final game of the league stage scheduled on Saturday, May 4, and despite the fact that they have nothing to lose they might want to finish off on a winning note.

In AB de Villiers’ words, as per the Times of India, “The dismissive adage runs that sporting teams have an outstanding team spirit only when they are winning, and generally fall apart when they are losing. From what I have experienced over the past 15 years, the reality is not quite so simple. Far from being a mere consequence of winning, strong team spirit is an essential ingredient of sporting success; it comes before, not afterwards.”

The RCB squad has been an exceptionally happy group this year, says de Villiers

After the loss against the Delhi Capitals on Sunday, the RCB brigade was seen celebrating as a team and united at Virat Kohli’s restaurant in Delhi. “The RCB squad has been an exceptionally happy group this year; our results may have been disappointing, and we underperformed in that horrific run of six successive defeats at the start of the tournament, and yet, as a group of people training, playing, traveling and living side by side for almost two months, we remain content and together,” de Villiers added.

As the RCB play the Sunrisers Hyderabad, who are placed fourth in the IPL points table, they’ll have nothing to lose but a final chance to prove themselves. “The collective mood is emphatically upbeat ahead of our last match, against SRH at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, and we want to put on a show for our supporters and to finish on an exhilarating note. How can you be upbeat when you have been eliminated, some may ask. That is the challenge, to stay positive at all times,” de Villiers concluded.
