Indian women’s team faced Australian women’s team in the T20 World Cup Final which was watched by fans all over the world. Melbourne Cricket Ground set up a new World Record in the World Cup final, with 86,174 fans coming to watch the match live in the stadium. This is the highest attendance ever achieved for a women’s cricket match, globally, and the highest attendance for any women’s sporting event in Australia.

In the final, Alyssa Healy gave Australia a flying start, with her scoring 75 runs off just 39 balls, which gave Australia the much-needed boost ahead of the Women In Blue. Beth Mooney gave Alyssa Healy full support as she ended up on 78 off 84, which helped Australia reach a mammoth total of 184 in the finals.

The opening duo of Australia won silverware as Alyssa Healy bagged the Player of the Match for her extraordinary performance in the final whereas Beth Mooney was named the Player of the tournament for her consistent performances throughout the tournament. She is also the leading run-scorer of the tournament with 259 runs in 6 innings.

Harmanpreet-led Team India played well throughout the tournament, but there were some sad faces in the camp. However, this victory is not just Australian women’s victory, this win is a win for women all over the world aspiring to become cricketers and take up the sport.

Cups will come & go: Gautam Gambhir

Even after a disappointing end to a promising start for Team India, they were showered with positive messages from fans and cricketers all over the world, including India’s former World Cup winner, Gautam Gambhir. Amidst the sad faces, Gautam Gambhir tweeted a positive message for the women’s team and has praised the growth of women’s cricket, as billions of fans watched the finals all across the globe.

Gautam Gambhir tweeted, “Till a few years ago, nobody could have imagined that a billion eyes would be glued to Women’s Cricket World Cup. Cups will come & go, but today is a victory for each & every INDIAN GIRL who dared to defy odds & societal barriers! #SheInspiresUs, Congrats to Australia!”
