In what was a thrilling Test match spread over ten sessions and in the end England emerged victorious over the No.1 ranked Indian team. Owing to some splendid performances by skipper Virat Kohli, India managed to stage a fight back in the game. In the end, the visiting team fell short of the target by just 31 runs as the hosts heaved a sigh of relief and now lead the series 1-0.
Former Australian cricketer Tom Moody lauded both the teams for a spectacular contest. He stated that this match has sparked an intense battle in the series and fans will be eagerly waiting for more action as there still are four more Tests to be played in the series. Moody asserted that England emerged victorious as more players contributed to their cause when compared to India. The visitors didn’t have a lot to boast about in their batting department except for Virat Kohli who scored 200 runs in the match.
He was also full of praise for the 20-year-old youngster Sam Curran. The all-rounder struck gold in both the departments. In the first innings, he managed to get rid of the Indian top order and ended up with four wickets. Later on, he added 63 runs while batting with the tailenders, which probably was the difference between both the teams. Moody also lauded the selectors for backing the youngster.
Moody’s tweet
“Brilliant test to start the series, ultimately England had more players contributing over 4 days. Kudos to the selectors for backing Sam Curran, what an exciting talent! #ENGvIND,” the Aussie wrote.
