The Sunrisers Hyderabad are having a dream IPL. The orange army became the first team to qualify for the playoffs after some impressive bowling to defend low scores match after match. The franchise received a huge setback at the start of the season after David Warner was ruled out of the tournament. The onus was on Kane Williamson to deliver and many experts felt that it was too big an ask from the Kiwi skipper.
However, Williamson has silenced everyone with his impressive run with the bat and brilliant captaincy on the field. He has used his resources in excellent fashion to pull up unlikely victories time after time. They look the best side of the tournament by far and it will be difficult to beat the orange army in the Knockout stages. Williamson has amassed 493 runs in just 11 games. Tom Moody, head coach of SRH is not surprised with Williamson’s dream run as he feels that the Kiwi batsmen have been a good T20 player for a number of years.

“To be honest it has not been a surprise to us. Kane Williamson has been a good T20 player for a number of years. It is really an opportunity for people watching to see the versatility in Kane Williamson.” Moody was quoted as saying by indiatvnews.com. Though Williamson is seen more as an ODI or a test player, he has proved otherwise. He has been able to score runs at impressive strike rates with proper cricketing shots.
“He has got a T20 hundred, I think about four years ago in the Champions League. It is no surprise to us that Kane has the ability to adapt from Test cricket to 50-over cricket, down to T20 cricket. That is why we bought him four years ago,” Moody added. Though SRH has qualified for the playoffs they cannot rest as yet because finishing in the top two must be their priority.
“We will not be looking to make any sort of experiments moving forward. To us, it is about looking for constant improvement. We are looking to play our best XI on any given day. We ideally want to finish on top two, we have still got some unfinished business there.” Moody added. For the major part of the tournament, the SRH batsmen have disappointed but after their game against Delhi where they chased 187 with nine wickets to spare, the whole team must be full of confidence and backing themselves to go all the way.
