Yes, it was another Virat Kohli century in India’s chase. Yes, it was yet another Indian victory in the chase. But something had changed. MS Dhoni had come to the fore in Adelaide for the Men in Blue after a long long time and he, along with Dinesh Karthik, took India home safely in the game which went or rather taken to the last over. Kohli was delighted with the way it was finished by the veteran and termed his knock as ‘MS Classic.’
A lot of people had taken a jibe on Dhoni for his 96-ball 51-run knock in the series opener. But they forgot the fact that he had come out to bat at 4/3 in the fifth over of the innings and had to play according to the situation. In Adelaide though he was in the middle at 160/3 and proved his mettle not for the umpteenth time in his career. Dhoni remained unbeaten on 55 off 54 balls and Kohli was all praise of his ‘captain’ in the post-match presentation.
There shouldn’t be any doubt
Virat Kohli indirectly slammed the people questioning MS Dhoni’s place in the ODI team and went on to say that he is an integral part of the team always. “There is no doubt that he shouldn’t be a part of this team. Tonight was an MS classic. Only he knows what’s going through his mind. He calculates the game so well. He backs himself to hit those big hits. Hats off to him and Dinesh as well,” the Indian captain said when Isa Guha asked him about Dhoni.
Kohli, however, didn’t forget to specially mention Dinesh Karthik‘s contribution who scored 25 off just 14 balls and made sure that the pressure didn’t get to his partner. “He (Karthik) came in and showed the right kind of intent. MS was as composed as ever. We try and help each other (MS and himself). Tonight was special for us,” he added.
With the series levelled now, the decider will be a mouth-watering prospect and it will be played at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Friday.
