Too excited to see young Sangha in action for Thunders says teammate Joe Root

Sydney Thunder’s overseas recruit Joe Root has been expressing strong admiration for the youngster Jason Sangha and is pumped up to see the New South Wales lad in action for the Thunders. Sangha, during a practice match recently, showed glimpses of his talent when he launched a monster six that landed high up in the stands at the Spotless Stadium and raised to 60 in quick succession.

The 19-year-old caught everybody by surprise with his quickfire innings especially England Test skipper Joe Root who is showering all praises on the youngster. The right-handed batsman who scored a century in a tour game against England last summer, and smashed his first Sheffield Shield ton for NSW last month, has pleased everybody at the Sydney Thunder with how quickly he has adapted to the shortest form of the game.

After his efforts in the practice match against the Sixers on Sunday, the New South Wales bloke will be hoping to make the BBL debut and showcase his talent against the Melbourne Stars on Friday. His exception skill with the bat and his ability to read the match situation at the Spotless Stadium where he had hit a monstrous 120m six has made his Thunder teammate Root a recent include to the Sangha Fan Club.

Root impressed with his skills

It was his knock in the tour game when England last toured down under that left a mark on Root. The teenager scored a hundred there reading the situation well to put up a real display of his skills.

“I was impressed when he (Jason Sangha) played against us in a tour game last summer, he got a brilliant 100 against a very good England attack in Townsville. And the way he went out and played that first game [on Sunday], he read the situation beautifully, played with a lot of skill and played some ridiculous shots,” he was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au.

“It’s great to see young guys come out and play with that freedom in the game and that amount of skill at such a young age.”Hopefully, he can keep taking that confidence forward, and keep improving and pushing that ceiling as high as he can,” he further added.

The former Aussie under-19 captain has a lot to offer to Sydney Thunders side in BBL 08, who will be looking to start strongly against the Melbourne Stars with skipper Shane Watson in form of his life. The youngster needs to focus on his fitness if he wants to feature heavily for the Thunders.
