Sri Lanka’s Thilan Samaraweera without much of a notice played 81 Test matches 53 ODIs and maintained a healthy average of 48.76 in Test cricket. Batting in the middle-order, he scored 14 centuries and 30 half-centuries.

He averages exactly on 42 outside Asia after playing 12 Test matches over the last 10 years. He is one of the two Sri Lankan cricketers and has so far scored 840 runs from 24 innings.

Samaraweera is known for his sheer resilience and determination but hasn’t got much of a recognition as he was playing alongside some of the legends of the generation namely, Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene. What Samaraweera does best is to wear bowlers down with his patience and solidity and was probably the unsung hero of that middle-order.
