The Sri Lankan veteran became the first batsman in the history of World Cup cricket to hit 4 consecutive centuries in 4 matches. He started with 7 runs against the Afghan team, but scores of 105* and 117* against Bangladesh and England and 104 against Australia gave him 3 centuries in 3 matches. And with a 124 against Scotland on 11th March, he became the first batsman in ODIs to hit 4 centuries in 4 matches and first in World Cup to hit 4 centuries in a single edition. He had also hit a century against New Zealand in the 2011 World Cup match in Mumbai.
