5. Greg Chappell – 380:
Widely regarded by the world as the best Australian batsman after Don Bradman, Greg Chappell hit 247* and 133 against New Zealand in Wellington, 1974. His record of scoring 380 runs stood until Graham Gooch broke that record against India.
Another interesting fact about Greg Chappell’s record is that apart from him scoring centuries in both innings, his brother Ian Chappell also scored centuries in both innings, the only instance of brothers scoring centuries in both innings of a Test match. Ian scored 145 and 121. The brothers added 264 runs in the first innings and 86 in the second innings of the Test.
