Top 10 batsmen with most 200s in Test cricket: The most glorious point in any cricketer’s life is when he gets to represent his nation in the ultimate format of the game; Test cricket. It’s the daydream of any budding cricketer who opts to play this sport. As far as batsmen are concerned they have to put up a marathon display of concentration on the crease as this format requires hell lot of skills and patience. There have been many batters who have excelled in Test cricket and have stitched their name in the cricket fraternity in golden letters. Though, there are many batters who score centuries in Tests but converting it into a big century as in double-century requires big appetite for runs, invariable levels of concentration and application on the crease to the best of ones abilities. But this man was even beyond these things as he not only notched up big scores but also made them at a breath-taking rate to sway away the opponents completely. Once he got in, he had the ability to bat for long hours and stood like a burly pillar for his side. Marvan played 90 Test matches and aggregated 5,502 runs with 16 centuries. In the later part of his career he added improvisation to his game as well which aided in the expansion of his run-scoring ways. His late cuts and cover-drives oozed a different class altogether. Apart from featuring in the highest partnership for any wicket in Tests, Jayawardene also holds the record for the highest individual score of 374 runs by a Sri Lankan player. His highest Test score being 336 and is also the batsman with second highest average in this list. But the stand-out feature about Hammond’s batting was the kind of majestic and jaw-dropping strokes, he pulled off and with relative ease. At a time when aerial shots were not in the trend, his fearlessness allowed him to play beautiful lofted strokes. 3. Brian Lara (West Indies) – 9: Brian Lara. Though he had a very unorthodox style of playing but the way he dominated great bowlers like McGrath, Lee, Warne, Muralitharan and Kumble made him a glittering star. Lara had the ability to score big hundreds and that too under any given conditions. He holds the record for highest individual score of 400 runs in an innings of a Test match. Brian played 131 Tests and made 11,953 runs at an average of 52.88 with 34 centuries and 9 double-centuries. 2. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) – 11: Kumar Sangakkara. Though he was never considered as talented as Mahela Jayawardene and Aravinda de Silva but it was his unmatched efficiency and consistency all the years which not only made him the greatest Sri Lankan batsman but also one of the best in the world of cricket. Sanga featured in 134 Tests and scored 12,400 runs at an impeccable average of 57.40 with 38 centuries to his credit. 1. Don Bradman (Australia) – 12: Sir Don Bradman. In only 80 innings, Bradman compiled an unbelievable tally of 6,996 runs at a jaw-dropping average of 99.94 with 29 hundreds and 12 double-centuries and holds the record for the most double hundreds in Test cricket.
