Apart from being a sharp and witty glove-man for his team, Sanga was a classy batsman with a sharp cricketing brain. He had been Sri Lanka’s go-to man for over a decade. He made his debut in 2000 versus Pakistan batting at No.5. But soon was promoted to the vital No.3 position as soon as he gained experience and showcased his potential.

Sangakkara has batted 238 innings at this position and has scored 18 centuries and 66 half-centuries. Overall, he has hit 9747 runs at an impressive strike rate of 80.50.
