Top 10 batsmen with most runs in ODI career: One Day Internationals is a format which gained importance after 1983-85, when India started performing admirably in the format. The cricket crazy fans in India and sub-continent made the new format a great money making format. The subsequent matches have proved to be success with India been the centre point. Many batsmen made their name as ODI specialists while some took to the format like fish take to water. Here are 10 such batsmen who have made the most runs in the ODI format. 10. 10405 – Brian Lara (ICC/WI 1990-2007) Mt: 299 Best: 169 Avg: 40.48 100s: 19 Brian Lara scored 10405 runs. One of the greatest Test batsmen, Lara brought over his genius over to the limited overs internationals and started as an opener, moving down to no.3 or 4 later. He could play the anchor role as well as go berserk if needed to, as evident from his innings against Canada in 2003 World Cup. Hard work and innovation brought Dravid success in ODIs as well, he made the most runs in the 1999 World Cup and batted everywhere, kept wickets and even bowled if needed. Ganguly led India to the 2003 World Cup finals and also to ICC knockout cup finals in 2000. Ganguly was known for his tenacious batting against both quick bowlers and spinners. He fancied spinners more as he could hit them over their head by stepping out. He retired in 2012 after a successful career. 2. 14234 – Kumar Sangakkara (Asia/ICC/SL 2000-2015) Mt: 404 Best: 169 Avg: 41.98 100s: 25 Kumar Sangakkara14234 runs in ODIs. He debuted in 2000 and since then has formed one of the greatest partnerships with Mahela Jayawardene, taking Sri Lanka to wins many times. He took Sri Lanka to the finals of 2011 World cup, where they lost to India. He had announced his retirement after the 2015 World Cup and wrote his own farewell with 4 centuries in 4 matches consecutively, making him the 1st batsman to do so in ODIs. 1. 18426 – Sachin Tendulkar (India 1989-2012) Mt: 463 Best: 200* Avg: 44.83 100s: 49 Sachin Tendulkar scored 18426 runs in ODIs. He has scored 18426 runs with 49 centuries and made the first double hundred in ODIs, a 200* against South Africa in 2010. He also finally won the World Cup in 2011, after 6 attempts at the trophy.
