Former Indian captain and one of the greatest openers ODI cricket has ever seen made 11363 runs with 22 centuries and highest of 183 against Sri Lanka in the 1999 World Cup. Ganguly led India to the 2003 World Cup finals and also to ICC knockout cup finals in 2000. Ganguly was known for his tenacious batting against both quick bowlers and spinners. The greatest ODI batsman of all time India’s Sachin Tendulkar holds almost every record in ODI cricket. He has scored 18426 runs with 49 centuries and made the first double hundred in ODIs, a 200* against South Africa in 2010. He also finally won the World Cup in 2011, after 6 attempts at the trophy. Sachin retired in 2012 after making his 100th international century against Bangladesh in an Asia cup game.

The West Indian great Brian Lara scored 10405 runs in ODIs. One of the greatest Test batsmen, Lara brought over his genius over to the limited overs internationals and started as an opener, moving down to no.3 or 4 later. He could play the anchor role as well as go berserk if needed to, as evident from his innings against Canada in 2003 World Cup. His only regret, not winning the World Cup, he ended his career in 2007 World Cup with 19 centuries and a best of 169.

It was said that Rahul Dravid would not succeed in ODIs due to his Test match technique, but after 18 years, 10889 runs and 12 centuries, it is Dravid who is laughing instead of his distractors. Hard work and innovation brought Dravid success in ODIs as well, he made the most runs in the 1999 World Cup and batted everywhere, kept wickets and even bowled if needed. Dravid ended his career against England in 2013 with 12 centuries and a best of 153 against New Zealand.

Former Indian captain and one of the greatest openers ODI cricket has ever seen made 11363 runs with 22 centuries and highest of 183 against Sri Lanka in the 1999 World Cup. Ganguly led India to the 2003 World Cup finals and also to ICC knockout cup finals in 2000. Ganguly was known for his tenacious batting against both quick bowlers and spinners. He fancied spinners more as he could hit them over their head by stepping out. Ganguly retired in 2007 from the ODIs.

One of the greatest all-rounders seen in the game of cricket Jacques Kallis scored 11579 runs with 17 hundreds in 328 ODI matches. One of the best batsmen he could open the innings or come in at no.3 to settle the team down. He also bowled more than gentle pace. Kallis did everything except win the World Cup for South Africa, a regret he took with himself as he came to terms with his physical condition and injuries and retiring just before the 2015 World Cup despite being selected in the probables.

Regarded as one of the best batsmen in world cricket, the gentle giant Inzamam made 11739 runs in ODIs with 10 centuries and average of 39.52. One of the coolest minds in cricket, Inzi, as he was fondly called by his peers, had the most sublime touches of all when he hit the ball. He could play the waiting game or destroy any bowling attack if he wanted to. One of the biggest factors behind Pakistan’s 1992 World Cup win, Inzamam retired after Pakistan’s exit from the 2007 World Cup in group stages.

Mahela Jayawardene ended his career with 12650 runs in 448 matches with 19 centuries after Sri Lanka was defeated by South Africa in the 2015 World Cup QFs. Jayawardene led Sri Lanka in the 2007 World Cup finals and played one of the best innings in 2011 World Cup final. One of the best batsmen Sri Lanka had along with Kumar Sangakkara, Jayawardene retired after Sri Lanka&#8217;s defeat in QFs of the 2015 World Cup.

One the most destructive batsmen of his time, Sanath Jayasuriya was the Man of the tournament in Sri Lanka’s 1996 World Cup win. He made an art out of demolishing bowling attacks. Sri Lanka depended on the starts he gave in the first 15 overs of power play in ODIs. He made his highest score of 189 against India in 2000. He also picked 300 plus wickets in ODIs.

Australia’s 2 time World Cup winning captain Ricky Ponting comes in at number 3 on the list with 13704 runs with 30 centuries and highest of 164 against South Africa. Ponting was the best no.3 in ODI cricket, settling an inning or making quick runs. Ponting won 3 World Cups as player and captain in 1999, 2003 and 2007. He retired in 2012 after a successful career.

Kumar Sangakkara ended his ODI career with 14234 runs and 25 hundreds with a highest of 169. He has played 404 matches and has been one of the top wicket keepers in the world. He debuted in 2000 and since then has formed one of the greatest partnerships with Mahela Jayawardene, taking Sri Lanka to wins many times. He took Sri Lanka to the finals of 2011 World cup, where they lost to India.
