3. Mitchell Starc 6/28 Australia vs New Zealand 2015 World Cup
Australia scored a meager 151 from 32 overs in a host v host match at Eden Park, Auckland against New Zealand. Trent Boult demolished the middle order of Australian batting line up, taking 5/27, his career best. Only David Warner (34) and Brad Haddin (43)could withstand the bowling of New Zealand on a dicey Eden Park pitch.
But as it is known. the Australians don’t go down without a fight and they did give a fight to the Kiwis. After Brendon McCullum was dismissed for his usual style 50 off 27 balls, Mitchell Starc destroyed the Kiwi middle and lower middle order. He dismissed the likes of Ross Taylor (1), Grant Elliot (0) and Luke Ronchi (7) cheaply. Despite a partnership between Kane Williamson (45*) and Corey Anderson (26), Starc came back to dismiss Southee and Milne to bring New Zealand to the edge of defeat, but Kiwis hung on to the win by 1 wicket and Starc’s valiant 6/28 went in vain. It is 3rd best bowling figure in a losing cause.
