Bowling in the shortest format of the game, T20, is a challenging job. The format is accustomed to flat pitches which not only tests a bowler’s patience but also his skills. Twists and turns are a part and parcel of the game and a brilliant over or a crucial wicket can change the course of a game in no time. The international game has witnessed some fine bowlers execute their skills brilliantly over the years. Here’s a look at 10 bowlers with most 4 or more wicket in an innings in T20Is. Bowlers with the same number have been ranked on the basis of most wickets and a better average. 10. Morne Morkel – 2: (Photo Source: BCCI) Morne Morkel is an out-and-out fast bowler who has the pace and height to trouble the best. His attitude and physical strength are also seen as his plus points. Morkel, who has not been part of the South African T20I set-up since the series against New Zealand last August, was recently omitted from the country’s World T20 squad. He has played 39 T20Is and taken 45 wickets at an economy rate of 7.37. He has two 4-wicket hauls with the best of 4/17 against the Kiwis. 9. His best is 4/21 against Zimbabwe and his economy rate is 6.71. Shakib is currently the top-ranked all-rounder in International Cricket Council (ICC)’s list for ODIs while second on the T20Is and Test rankings. A talented left-hand batsman and left-arm spinner, Shakib Al Hasan is unarguably the best cricketer that Bangladesh has ever had. 8. Nathan McCullum – 2: Nathan McCullum. The elder brother of much celebrated Brendon McCullum, Nathan recently announced that he will retire from international cricket at the end of the ongoing season. He has played 61 matches and taken 55 wickets at an average of 22.85. His best is 4/16 against Pakistan and his economy rate is 6.90. 7. Dale Steyn – 2: Dale Steyn. Often referred to as ‘Steyn Gun’, enough to indicate his speed, he generates the kind of excitement and drama that makes fast bowling a sight to behold. He has played 38 matches taking 55 wickets at an average of 15.98 with a best of 4/9 against West Indies while his economy rate is 6.45. 6. Alex Cusack – 3: Alex Cusack of Ireland. He has played 37 T20I matches taking 35 wickets at an average of 20.40 with the best of 4/11 against West Indies while his economy rate is 7.06. 5. Mudassar Bukhari – 3: Mudassar Bukhari. One of the highlights of his career was a Man-of-the-Match performance against Canada in the World Cup Qualifiers in South Africa when he made 85. He has played 35 matches taking 43 wickets at an average of 17.30 with the best of 4/7 against UAE while his economy rate is 6.62. 4. Shahid Afridi – 3: Shahid Afridi. A magnetic crowd-puller, he is fondly known as ‘BOOM BOOM’ by legions of fans around the world. His bowling though has been a potent weapon and won his team many matches. He has played 90 matches and taken 91 wickets at an average of 23.90. His best spell is 4/11 against Netherlands and his economy rate is 6.60. 3. Saeed Ajmal – 4: Saeed Ajmal. From being one of the most feared spinners in world cricket, he does not find himself a part of the Pakistan team today being banned for bowling with a suspected bowling action. His 64 matches have produced 85 wickets at 17.83 with the best of 4/19 against Ireland and an economy rate of 6.36. 2. Ajantha Mendis – 5: Sri Lankan bowler Ajantha Mendis. Mendis burst onto the scene by stunning everyone with his finger-flicked leg-breaks. He has played 39 T20Is taking 66 wickets at 14.42 with the best of 6/8 against Zimbabwe while his economy rate is 6.45. 1. Umar Gul – 6: Umar Gul of Pakistan. He has played 60 matches taking 85 wickets at 16.67 with the best of 5/6 against New Zealand while his economy rate is 7.19.
