Smith led South Africa to 29 test losses, the most by any other captain in Test cricket. However, his side lost in 51 ODIs out of the 150 matches and the other 9 came in the shortest version of the game.</p>

He was captain of the Indian team in 221 matches where on 90 occasions they ended on the losing end. 76 losses coming in ODIs made him the Indian captain with the most losses in ODIs. The remaining 14 losses for India during Azharuddin’s captaincy came in Test Cricket.</p>

In the 249 matches he acted as captain, Sri Lanka lost 114 games with 95 of those coming in the ODI format, the 2nd most losses for any captain who led his side in the ODI format.
