Top 10 fastest centuries in IPL: Scoring a century is as tough task in T20 format. Even in Indian Premier it has been a rare event as only 31 centuries been recorded in 7 seasons. Few players did score centuries in real quick time. Here we look at the fastest centuries recorded in IPL so far.

10. Andrew Symonds – 47 balls
The hard hitting batsman from Australia, Andrew Symonds playing for Deccan Chargers against Rajasthan Royals created a carnage at Hyderabad in 2008 season. He scored a quick fire 117 off 53 balls in which, he brought up his century off 47 balls.
9. Murali Vijay – 46 balls
Indian Test Opener Murali Vijay scored the 7th fastest century during his first IPL season in 2010. He scored it against Rajasthan Royals while playing for Chennai Super Kings. Vijay scored a 56-ball 127 in the knock.
8. Chris Gayle – 46 balls
The Jamaican Beast Chris Gayle, recorded the sixth fastest century when he played against Kings XI Punjab at Bangalore. With help of 10 fours and 9 sixes, he scored 49 ball 107 during which he completed his century in just 46 balls.

One more innings from the Caribbean Hunk, this time it was Kings XI Punjab at the receiving end. We usually don’t associate dismantlement when the bowling line-up has the likes of Mitchell Johnson and Sandeep Singh; but when Gayle gets going the brightest lights dim off. It was his day right from the first ball, it took him just 46 balls to get to triple figures. In the 57 balls that he played in this innings with the help of 12 massive, by massive I mean huge sixes and 7 fours he scored 117 runs. A tremendous knock, one of the finest by all standards
6. Sanath Jayasuriya – 45 balls
The Sri Lankan veteran, Sanath Jayasuriya proved age is not a factor for cricket when he was playing for Mumbai Indians. Against Chennai Super Kings at Chennai, he scored 114 in just 48 balls with 9 fours and 11 sixes during which he brought up his century from just 45 balls.
5. AB de Villiers – 43 balls
Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman AB de Villiers scored the 5th fastest century of the IPL against the debutants of the season Gujarat Lions. He brought up his century in 43 balls and scored an unbeaten 129 runs of 52 balls with the help of 10 fours & 12 sixes and at a strike-rate of 248.08.
4. Adam Gilchrist – 42 balls
When Adam Gilchrist is on song, any target is small. Playing for Deccan Chargers, against Mumbai Indians at Mumbai, Gilly went bonkers in chase of 155 as the target completed by 12 over itself. Gilchrist, who brought up his century in just 42 balls remained unbeaten on 107.
3. David Miller – 38 balls
The Killer from South Africa, David Miller blasted a 37 ball century in 2013 for Kings XI Punjab during their chase of 191 against Royal Challengers Bangalore at Mohali. He brought up his century in 38 balls with help of 8 fours and 7 sixes and remained unbeaten on 101 leading his side to victory.
2. Yusuf Pathan – 37 balls
Yusuf Pathan holds the record of second fastest century in IPL. Playing for Rajasthan Royals, at Mumbai against Mumbai Indians, Yusuf led his side with a thunderous knock during chase of 212 in 2010. He blasted 9 fours and 8 sixes scoring 100 off 37 balls. He brought up his century in 37 balls, which was the fastest IPL century which was stood as record till 2013.
1. Chris Gayle – 30 balls
It was none other than the monster Chris Gayle, who has the fastest century on his name. It is not only the fastest century in IPL, but also the fastest in recognized cricket. He went on to score the highest individual score in T20 format, 175*.
