Kapil Dev broke Glen Turner’s record for highest score in an ODI innings when he made 175* from 138 balls. Kapil Dev walked in to bat with India 17/5 against minnows Zimbabwe and with the help from Roger Binny (22) and Syed Kirmani (24*), Kapil hit India out of trouble because had India lost the match, it would have been very difficult for India to qualify for the semis. Kapil’s daredevil innings consisted of 16 fours and 6 sixes and took India to 266/8, a truly Captain’s innings.
Zimbabwe was bowled out for 235 with Madan Lal taking 3/42 in 11 overs giving India the win by 31 runs.
