Chasing 173 for the win, Virat came in at number 3, with the scorecard reading 39/1 in 3.5 overs. Kohli absolutely hammered the Protea bowling to complete his half century in 35 balls and then finished up with the score of an unbeaten 72 off 44 balls. The match saw a cheeky moment between MS Dhoni and Kohli when Dhoni defended the ball on the last ball of the penultimate over to let Kohli hit the winning runs. Indian opener Gautam Gambhir played an absolutely key role in India’s World Cup final win in the inaugural edition in 2007. It was Gambhir’s anchoring 75, around which all other batsmen batted to help India post a decent total of 157 on the board. His knock came in 54 balls. His dominance on the game can be noticed from the fact that the second highest scorer for India in the match was Rohit Sharma with 30 runs. Having scored an emphatic 72* against the South Africans in the semis, Kohli continued his good touch in the finals of the ICC World T20 in 2014 against Sri Lanka. The much anticipated India-Pakistan clash in the 2012 World T20 went underway as Pakistan batted first. They could not post a big total and were bundled out for 128. Suresh Raina became the first Indian to score a century in T20 cricket when he scored 101 against South Africa at Gros Islet during the ICC World T20 in 2010. Rohit Sharma hit the 2<sup>nd</sup> ton by an Indian batsman in T20Is. During the first match of the T20 series at Dharamsala, Rohit Sharma wreaked havoc on the South African bowling. <p>Rohit Sharma hit the 2<sup>nd</sup> ton by an Indian batsman in T20Is. During the first match of the T20 series at Dharamsala, Rohit Sharma wreaked havoc on the South African bowling. He built his innings in a crescendo. He took 39 balls to reach his half-century and then started attacking the bowlers to bring his maiden T20 ton in just 62 balls. He was dismissed on 106 that came in 66 balls in the 16th over by Abbott. India posted a huge 199 on the board. But Sharma’s ton went in vain as South Africa chased down the score with 2 balls to spare.</p>

<p>India has not been the most consistent side in the T20Is, but truth be told, they have certainly dominated when in form. India have had their moments of joy in T20 cricket, from winning the inaugural edition of T20 World Cup to becoming the number one ranked T20 side in the world. The key to the success has always been one major contribution with the bat, around which other partnerships have been built. More or less, this is how the game works in the shortest format. So who have been the players to notch up the top scores for India in T20Is? Here are the highest individual scores for India in T20Is.</p>
<h4><strong>10. Virat Kohli v South Africa, 2014 &#8211; 72*:</strong></h4>

<p>Virat Kohli was in supreme touch when he single-handedly outplayed South Africa in the 2nd semi-final of the 2014 ICC World T20. South Africa scored 172/4 in their 20 overs. Chasing 173 for the win, Virat came in at number 3, with the scorecard reading 39/1 in 3.5 overs. Kohli absolutely hammered the Protea bowling to complete his half century in 35 balls and then finished up with the score of an unbeaten 72 off 44 balls. The match saw a cheeky moment between MS Dhoni and Kohli when Dhoni defended the ball on the last ball of the penultimate over to let Kohli hit the winning runs. It was after this match, that England Women’s team player <strong><a href="http://www.crictracker.com/after-awards-its-proposal-raining-at-kohli/" target="_blank">Danielle Wyatt</a></strong> proposed Kohli on Twitter.</p>
<h4><strong>9. Suresh Raina v Zimbabwe, 2010 – 72*:</strong></h4>

<p>During India’s tour to Zimbabwe in 2010, Suresh Raina played an absolute gem of an innings in the 2nd T20I by scoring a 44-ball 72. Chasing a modest 140, Raina promoted himself ahead of Kohli and Rohit Sharma and justified his decision with blazing strokeplay. Hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes, he scored 72 and guided India to a 3-wicket win. He was awarded the Man of the Match and also the Player of the Series for his performance.</p>
<h4><strong>8. Gautam Gambhir v Pakistan, 2007 – 75:</strong></h4>

<p>Indian opener Gautam Gambhir played an absolutely key role in India’s World Cup final win in the inaugural edition in 2007. It was Gambhir’s anchoring 75, around which all other batsmen batted to help India post a decent total of 157 on the board. His knock came in 54 balls. His dominance on the game can be noticed from the fact that the second highest scorer for India in the match was Rohit Sharma with 30 runs. Gambhir was dismissed in the 18th over by Umar Gul but he had already done the damage. India successfully defended their score to lift the silverware.</p>
<h4><strong>7. Virat Kohli v Sri Lanka, 2014 – 77:</strong></h4>

<p>Having scored an emphatic 72* against the South Africans in the semis, Kohli continued his good touch in the finals of the ICC World T20 in 2014 against Sri Lanka. Rahane was dismissed in the 2nd over of the match, and Kohli had to step in early this time. He played with absolute maturity to score 77 off 58 balls, hitting four maximums. However, sadly for India, he was the only batsman who got among the runs and India could post just 130 on the board in the finals. Sri Lanka chased down the score inside 18 overs and Kohli’s efforts went in vain.</p>
<h4><strong>6. Yuvraj Singh v Australia, 2013 – 77*:</strong></h4>

<p>One of the most prolific T20 batsmen Yuvraj Singh always loves batting against the Aussies in the shortest format. He gave his introduction to the Kangaroos in 2007 T20 World Cup by scoring a 30-ball 70 and then followed it up with an unbeaten 77 against them at Rajkot in 2013. Australia scored a gigantic 201 riding on Aaron Finch’s 89. In the run chase, it was Yuvraj’s blitzkrieg 77 off 35 balls that took the game away from the visitors. India chased down the score with 6 wickets in hand and two balls to spare. Yuvraj’s innings was studded with 5 sixes and 8 fours.</p>
<h4><strong>5. Virat Kohli v Pakistan, 2012 – 78*:</strong></h4>

<p>The much anticipated India-Pakistan clash in the 2012 World T20 went underway as Pakistan batted first. They could not post a big total and were bundled out for 128. India chased the target effortlessly. Kohli, batting at number 3, played with ease and helped India cruise along the target in 17 overs. He scored an unbeaten 78 in 61 balls. He hit 2 sixes and 8 fours in his masterly innings.</p>
<h4><strong>4. Rohit Sharma v Australia, 2010 – 79*:</strong></h4>

<p>During the group stages match in the ICC World T20 in 2010, India were set a target of 184 by the Australians. The target looked daunting and things became worse for India when they were reeling at 50/7 in 10 overs. One man stood firm and played with great maturity. Rohit Sharma, who came in at number 4, remained unbeaten as India were bundled out for 135 in 17.4 overs. Sharma was the standout batsman for India and certainly a saving grace as he scored 79 off 46 balls, hammering 6 sixes!</p>
<h4><strong>3. Virat Kohli v Australia, 2016 – 90*:</strong></h4>

<p>India created history by whitewashing Australia in Australia in 2016, winning the series 3-0. In the first T20I, India got a flying start, kudos to Rohit Sharma early blitz but the momentum was then carried forward by Virat Kohli, who remained unbeaten on 90 at the end of the 20 overs. Kohli looked set for a ton but his selfless game saw him left stranded on 90. His innings came in just 55 balls and he hit 9 boundaries and 2 maximums in the innings to help India post 188 on the board. Australia, in reply, could score just 151 and India won by 37 runs.</p>
<h4><strong>2. Suresh Raina v South Africa, 2010 – 101:</strong></h4>

<p>Suresh Raina became the first Indian to score a century in T20 cricket when he scored 101 against South Africa at Gros Islet during the ICC World T20 in 2010. Coming in to bat in the first over itself, after the loss of Murali Vijay on the second ball, Raina carved a masterclass knock of 101 off 60 balls embellished with 9 fours and 5 sixes. His efforts helped India post 186 on the board. He was dismissed in the last over by Albie Morkel. South Africa were restricted to 172/5 in their run chase and India won by 14 runs.</p>
