Top 10 highest individual scores in Tests in the last decade: Cricket has witnessed an evolution in the last ten years. He smacked 40 boundaries and 7 sixes as India made a mammoth 726 with Sehwag scoring a scintillating 293. He missed out on a record breaking triple but the damage was done as India won the match by an innings and 24 runs. Sehwag was at his best, as he sent the bowlers for leather hunt time and again. (© Getty Images) The Edgbaston crowd witnessed a poetic flow of the scoresheet as Alastair Cook stroked his way to a superb 294. He found the ropes on 33 occasions and tested India’s patience. A triple century eluded him, but Captain Cook’s 294 is the highest score by a batsman at Edgbaston surpassing Peter May’s 285 against West Indies in 1957. Cook’s effort is also the second-longest innings in terms of balls faced by an English batsman against India. Geoff Boycott’s 555-ball 246 in 1967 is on top of the list. Cook’s 773 minute long marathon handed England a win by an innings and 242 runs. 8. Brendon McCullum (New Zealand) – 302: Brendon McCullum. (© Getty Images) Brendon McCullum became the first New Zealander to score a Test triple ton as his side drew the 2nd Test with India to win the series 1-0. McCullum shared a Test-record 6th-wicket stand of 352 with wicket keeper BJ Watling (124) as the hosts declared on 680-8 in Wellington. The skipper saved New Zealand from a certain defeat as the hosts were struggling at 94-5 at one stage. The captain’s 647-minute knock ended when he fell for 302 from 559 balls, courtesy a beauty by Zaheer Khan. Brendon’s 302 was instrumental in holding out to a draw and clinching a historic series win. 7. Hashim Amla (South Africa) – 311*: Hashim Amla. (© Getty Images) Amla took strike as South Africa were one wicket down with no score on the board. He was at his very best as he found the gaps at ease and picked up 35 boundaries in style. Amla and Graeme Smith constructed a 259 runs partnership to lift South Africa to an emphatic innings win against England. Amla spent 790 minutes at the crease and faced 529 balls on his way to a sublime triple. Hashim Amla’s maiden triple century helped the visitors go one up in the series against England. 6. He towered 4 sixes and 27 boundaries to put a fitting reply to Sri Lanka’s 644, as Pakistan notched up 765 runs with the loss of only 6 wickets. The 760 minutes long maverick innings helped Pakistan to a draw in the first Test against Sri Lanka. It was Younis Khan’s 1st Test match as a captain and he celebrated the occasion with a stylish triple century. 5. Kumar Sangakkara (Sri Lanka) – 319: Kumar Sangakkara. En route to his triple, Sangakkara became the fastest man to 11,000 Test runs, eclipsing Brian Lara’s previous record by 5 innings. He lofted 8 sixes and 32 strokeful boundaries to notch up a stylish triple century to avoid an upset against Bangladesh. His carrier best 319 came at a time when Sri Lanka needed it the most. 4. Having already got a triple to his name against Pakistan, Sehwag sent Steyn & Co. to the cleaners as he scored his 2nd triple century in just 278 balls. Sehwag towered 6 sixes and 42 boundaries on his way to 319 off 304 balls. India powered by Sehwag’s triple hundred put up 627 on the board, as the match ended up evenly on a draw. 3. Michael Clarke (Australia) – 329*: Michael Clarke. (Photo Source: Getty Images) Sydney witnessed a class act as Michael Clarke came out all guns blazing to notch up a thundering triple century against India in the 2nd Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. “Pup” stroked his way to 39 boundaries and a massive six to stump India with an innings defeat. His bat carried no sticker, as Clarke stamped his authority with a classy innings. Australia went on to beat India by an innings and 68 runs. His 329* is one of the finest knocks in a decade. Clarke lead from the front, as Australia went on to thrash India to a series defeat. 2. Chris Gayle (West Indies) – 333: Chris Gayle’s 333. Chris Gayle complimented the Galle wind with his thunder filled knock as the veteran notched up his maiden triple century in Test cricket. Gayle smashed 9 sixes and 34 boundaries before Ajanta Mendis cleaned him up. Chris celebrated the feat in style by getting laid flat on his back as he cherished every bit of it. West Indies went on to score 580 and pushed the Lankan side to follow on. Sri Lanka hanged on for the duration as the match ended in a draw. 1. Mahela Jayawardene (Sri Lanka) – 374: (Photo Source: AFP) Mahela Jayawardene played a poetic knock as history was on offer at Colombo. Jayawardene played the innings of his life by picking up 43 boundaries and 1 big six on his way to a mammoth 374. His partner in crime Kumar Sangakkara provided ample support by scoring 287 as the hosts notched up 756 runs on the score board. Jayawardene’s marathon 752 minutes innings was enough to floor South Africa by an innings and 153 runs. The classy knock will go down as one of finest in the history of Test cricket.
